About TreatCheck

TreatCheck was created to solve a simple but genuinely important problem: pet owners frequently have no easy way to quickly verify whether a food is safe for their specific pet. A quick internet search for 'can dogs eat X' typically returns generic, species-level advice that may not account for your pet's age, weight, breed, or health conditions. TreatCheck exists to give pet owners personalised, reliable, and instantly accessible food safety guidance.

Our Mission

We believe that every pet deserves to be fed safely, and that their owners deserve clear, trustworthy information to make that happen. Our mission is to be the most practical, accurate, and accessible pet food safety resource in the UK — one that puts your specific pet at the centre of every check, rather than offering one-size-fits-all generic advice.

Too many pets suffer accidental poisoning every year from foods their owners believed were safe. Grapes and raisins in a fruit cake, onion powder in a gravy, chocolate in an Easter egg left within reach — these accidents happen because the risks are not always obvious. We want to make the safe choice the easy choice.

What We Support

TreatCheck supports 12 animal types, recognising that the UK pet-owning community is far broader than just dogs and cats. In addition to dogs and cats, TreatCheck provides tailored safety guidance for rabbits, guinea pigs, birds (including budgerigars, cockatiels, and parrots), ferrets, tortoises, turtles, horses, hedgehogs, chickens, and ducks.

Each animal type has its own nutritional requirements and toxic sensitivities. What is perfectly safe for a dog may be fatal for a rabbit. A food that is a nutritious treat for a horse may cause serious harm to a guinea pig. TreatCheck's guidance is designed to be relevant to the actual animal in your care.

The Platform

TreatCheck is a web-based platform accessible from any device — phone, tablet, or desktop — with no app download required. You create a profile for each of your pets, and then check any food by name, product barcode, or photograph. Results are delivered instantly and include a safety rating, a Paw Score, nutritional context, and specific warnings relevant to your pet's individual profile.

In addition to food checking, TreatCheck offers a food diary for logging meals and treats, a reaction tracker for monitoring adverse responses, seasonal and regional hazard alerts through the Danger Zone feature, breed-specific dietary intelligence, health trend tracking, and vet report generation.

The platform is available free for one pet with 10 checks per day. TreatCheck Pro, at £5.99 per month, unlocks unlimited pets, unlimited daily checks, and access to advanced Pro features including personalised meal plans, health predictions, and priority feature access.

Our Commitment to Safety and Accuracy

The safety information in TreatCheck is based on current veterinary and nutritional guidance relevant to each species. We regularly review our database to reflect updates in veterinary knowledge. We are transparent about the limitations of our service: TreatCheck is an educational and guidance tool, not a medical device, and it is not a substitute for professional veterinary advice.

We take data privacy seriously. Your pet profiles, food check history, and diary entries are private and visible only to you. We do not sell personal data. Our full Privacy Policy sets out in detail how we handle your data in compliance with UK GDPR. Please see also our Veterinary Disclaimer and Our Safety Information pages for a full picture of how we source and present safety guidance.
